Software requirements

Our templates are built for industry-standard design software. Here is exactly what you need to open, edit and export each format — and what to do if something doesn’t work.

Adobe InDesign templates (INDD / IDML)

InDesign is the best choice for multi-page newspapers and newsletters with precise typography.

  • Adobe InDesign CC 2018 or newer (latest version recommended)
  • INDD and, where included, IDML files for backwards compatibility
  • Master pages, paragraph and character styles, and linked image placeholders
  • Print-ready with proper bleeds, margins and CMYK colour profiles

Adobe Illustrator templates (AI / EPS)

Illustrator suits single-sheet layouts, bulletins and anything you want as fully scalable vector art.

  • Adobe Illustrator CC 2018 or newer (latest version recommended)
  • AI and EPS files with organised artboards and layers
  • Editable text and graphics, colour swatches and style guides

Vector EPS templates

  • EPS 10 format for maximum compatibility
  • Opens in Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Inkscape and Affinity Designer
  • Scales without quality loss; ideal for professional print

Canva templates

Many designs include a Canva version you can edit in your browser — no Adobe software required. You only need a free Canva account; Canva Pro adds extra fonts and assets but is not required to edit our templates.

System requirements

Windows

  • Windows 10 (64-bit) v1903 or later
  • 8 GB RAM minimum, 16 GB recommended
  • 4 GB available storage; 1280×800 display or larger

macOS

  • macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or later
  • 8 GB RAM minimum, 16 GB recommended
  • 4 GB available storage; 1280×800 display or larger

Canva templates have no system requirements beyond a modern web browser and internet connection.

Licensing

Adobe InDesign and Illustrator require an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription (individual plans, with student discounts and free trials available). EPS files also work in free or one-off alternatives such as Inkscape, CorelDRAW and Affinity Designer.

Installation & setup

  1. Download your chosen template from Adobe Stock or Envato Elements.
  2. Extract the downloaded archive to access the template files and assets.
  3. Open the appropriate file in your software (or the Canva link in your browser).
  4. Customise the placeholder text, images and colours with your own content.
  5. Export a print-ready PDF or share digitally.

Troubleshooting

  • Template won’t open? Check your software version and try the IDML file for InDesign if included.
  • Missing fonts? Install the fonts named in the documentation or substitute a similar typeface.
  • Images not displaying? Relink them via your software’s links panel or add your own.
  • Print quality issues? Use CMYK colour and 300 DPI images, and export with a high-quality print preset.
