Frequently asked questions
Common questions about our newspaper and newsletter templates. Can’t find your answer? Get in touch and we’ll help.
Software & technical
What software do I need to use these templates?
It depends on the template. Most are available for Adobe InDesign (INDD/IDML), and many are also offered for Adobe Illustrator (AI/EPS) and the free, browser-based Canva editor. The available formats are listed on every product page. For Adobe formats we recommend Creative Cloud 2018 or newer; Canva versions need only a free Canva account.
Can I edit a template in Canva instead of Adobe software?
Yes — any template that lists a Canva format can be edited entirely in your browser with Canva’s drag-and-drop tools, with no Adobe software or design experience required. Browse our Canva newspaper templates to see which designs include a Canva version.
Can I use software other than Adobe?
For EPS-format templates you can use alternatives such as Inkscape (free), CorelDRAW or Affinity Designer. INDD and AI files require the matching Adobe app for full editing. Canva versions work in any modern web browser.
The template won’t open — what should I do?
Make sure your software meets the minimum version, try the IDML version for InDesign files if one is included, update your software, and confirm the file downloaded completely. If you still have trouble, contact support on the marketplace where you downloaded it. See our software requirements for full details.
Licensing & usage
What is the difference between Adobe Stock and Envato Elements?
Adobe Stock is pay-per-download with direct integration into Adobe apps and standard or extended licences. Envato Elements is a subscription that includes unlimited downloads of templates, graphics and more — ideal for frequent users and agencies. Both include commercial licensing.
Can I use the templates for commercial projects?
Yes. When you download through Adobe Stock or Envato Elements, the template comes with a commercial licence that lets you use it for client work, business materials, and print or digital publications, subject to that marketplace’s licence terms.
Can I resell or redistribute the template files?
No. You may not resell, share or redistribute the original template files. You can, however, use a template for unlimited projects, sell the finished publications you create with it, and modify it for your needs. Each licence typically covers one user.
Templates & customisation
Can I customise the templates?
Absolutely — every template is fully editable. You can change text and fonts, adjust colours and styles, replace images with your own, tweak the layout and spacing, and add or remove elements.
Are fonts included?
Fonts are usually not included due to licensing, but template documentation lists the fonts used. Many are free Adobe Fonts included with a Creative Cloud subscription, and you can always substitute a similar font.
Are the stock photos included?
No. The photos shown in previews are for demonstration only and are not included in the download. Replace them with your own images or licensed stock photography.
Printing & output
Are the templates print-ready?
Yes. Templates are built with proper bleeds (typically 3 mm / 0.125"), safe margins, CMYK colour profiles and high-resolution settings, so you can export a press-ready PDF.
What paper sizes are supported?
Templates cover standard newspaper and newsletter sizes including broadsheet and tabloid (11" × 17" / 279 × 432 mm) and A4/Letter newsletter formats. Most can be adjusted to a custom size in InDesign or Illustrator.
How do I export for printing?
Export as PDF using a high-quality print preset, include bleeds and crop marks, use a CMYK colour profile, embed your fonts, and set images to 300 DPI for the best results.
